COSL Launches Three High-Tech Integrated Drilling Solutions
On August 8, 2024, COSL held the “COSL TODAY” Global Product Launch Event in Bangkok, Thailand. At the event, COSL unveiled three high-tech integrated drilling solutions, which garnered significant acclaim from international clients, partners, and industry experts present at the event. These solutions will help make oil and gas exploration and development more economical, efficient, and environment-protective, supporting global clients in heading towards a greener future for the oil and gas industry.
COSL, one of the world’s largest integrated oilfield services providers, has consistently implemented a technology-driven strategy over the past four decades. By offering a wide range of services, including seismic exploration, directional drilling, reservoir evaluation, production enhancement, well servicing, and well abandonment, COSL delivers full-spectrum oil and gas exploration, development, and production solutions to clients in over 40 countries and regions across the globe.
The three high-tech integrated drilling solutions released by COSL are the deepwater/high-temperature-high-pressure drilling technology solution, the infilled adjustment well technology solution, and the carbon dioxide re-injection technology solution. The deepwater/high-temperature-high-pressure drilling technology solution supports exploration in complex oil and gas reservoirs with a maximum operational water depth of 2,619 meters, a maximum operational well depth of 9,432 meters, and operational temperatures ranging from 2.3°C to 210°C. The infilled adjustment well technology solution addresses a holistic of technical challenges, including anti-collision and obstacle bypassing, leakage prevention and control, reservoir protection, sand control completion, and stability and enhancement of oil production. It improves the recovery ratio and stability of complex oil and gas fields with ultra-high porosity and ultra-high permeability unconsolidated sandstone. The carbon dioxide re-injection technology solution facilitates site detection, well construction, and dynamic monitoring for offshore carbon sequestration projects with a scale of millions of tons. It can handle carbon sequestration tasks with a maximum daily injection volume of over 200,000 cubic meters, achieving significant carbon reduction and emissions mitigation.
In these three technology solutions, COSL focuses on key technologies such as self-developed rotary steerable drilling and while-drilling logging technology, deepwater cement slurry systems, and 3D seismic exploration technology. Utilizing self-operated semi-submersible drilling platforms and deepwater geophysical vessels, COSL offers specialized integrated service solutions to address three world-class challenges in high-temperature, high-pressure, and deepwater environments. This approach ensures that deepwater oil and gas resources are “visible and accessible”, old deepwater oil fields remain “productive and stable”, and subsea carbon sequestration is “injectable and sealable.” These technologies exemplify COSL’s research and innovation achievements, and in 2024, COSL won two SPOTLIGHT Awards at OTC Asia for this series of technologies.
COSL’s Chief Technology Officer, SHANG Jie, stated that the newly-released high-tech integrated solutions would help oil and gas industry effectively conquer industry challenges in deepwater exploration, high-temperature-high-pressure drilling, and offshore carbon sequestration. Looking ahead, COSL will leverage its advanced technologies and extensive operational experience to support the robust development of high-potential oil and gas resources in the Asia-Pacific region, injecting new momentum into the sustainable development of the global oil and gas industry.
In recent years, 30% of new global oil and gas discoveries have been made in deepwater areas, with 41% in ultra-deepwater, establishing these regions as crucial strategic replacement zones for global oil and gas resources. COSL’s newly-released technology solutions will help global clients discover and drill deepwater oil and gas resources more economically and efficiently, arresting significant attention from international clients and partners. Oil and gas industry experts and senior representatives from leading energy companies and oilfield services providers from different countries participated the launch event . They gained a comprehensive understanding of COSL’s technology solutions and sang high praise for them, leaving a solid foundation for future cooperation.
Deputy General Manager of CNOOC Engineering & Technology Dept, FAN Baitao, stated that as a full-life cycle oilfield service provider, COSL possesses a comprehensive service chain, dedicated to delivering holistic, turnkey solutions to clients worldwide. We have witnessed COSL's latest technological achievements in oil and gas exploration and development, green and low-carbon development, and other fields. COSL has always remained customer-oriented as it seeks for win-win outcomes through innovative technologies and services.
